Soul and Song in May is a unique and exciting experience for singers. During the weekend retreat, we create a community sharing our voices, taking in the beautiful Tennessee hills, eating fabulous meals and workshopping together. Workshops include self-examination, voice technique and vocal improvisation. We will spend a lot of time in Singing Circle - a series of improvisational “singing games” where we (vocally) become the instrumentation for one another as we explore!... sound, scales, ear-training, creativity, range, harmony and hard groove. Intermittently, we will discuss the risks we took and the ones we didn’t take, and work through our hesitations. Name, claim and share your authentic voice with us!
If you are a singer and are curious about this playground of supportive, daring, and nurturing singers, contact me.

Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 01:52PM "Sellick asks one of the group to invent a two bar phrase - it could be a drum-like pulse or a fragment of a melody, repeating it again and again. The next person in the circle comes up with something to compliment it and so on until the original motif amplifies into a fully arranged statement. As each part is introduced, Sellick listens, leaning toward the person, giving advice when needed pulling the air toward her as if to encourage the idea to awaken, and then nodding her satisfaction as another link hooks into the vocal chain" Bob Doershuk
